After the 18th Lok Sabha elections, a new government has come to power. Under the NDA alliance, Narendra Modi has taken oath as Prime Minister and another 70 people have taken oath as Ministers. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju announced this on Wednesday. The first three days will see the swearing in of new members and the election of the Speaker of the House. The session will end on July 3.
President Draupadi Murmu will address the joint session of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on June 27. The first session of the 18th Lok Sabha has been called for the period from June 24 to July 3 for the swearing in of the newly elected members, the election of the Speaker, the President's address and discussions on the same, said Kiren Rijiju in his X post.
Rijiju also mentioned that, “The 264th session of the Rajya Sabha will begin on June 27 and end on July 3. Prime Minister Modi is expected to introduce his cabinet in Parliament after the President's address on June 27.
The motion of thanks on the President's address is expected to be aggressively debated. The opposition has aimed to challenge the NDA government on several issues. The Prime Minister will respond to the debate on the motion of thanks in both houses of Parliament.
Who will be Speaker of Lok Sabha?
Outgoing Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla is said to be interested in getting the same post again. BJP has no tradition of reinstating the same leader. Therefore, shock tactics can be used by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It is being predicted that a woman or a Dalit leader will also be appointed to this post. Andhra Pradesh BJP president D Purandeshwari's name is being discussed. Purandeshwari is the daughter of former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and renowned actor NT Rama Rao.
Vice President for Constituent Parties
Constituent parties can be given the post of Lok Sabha Vice President by BJP. Both the Telugu Desam and the Janata Dal (NC) are more interested in safeguarding the interests of their respective states than the Centre, so they may take the post. The post of Vice President was kept vacant by the Central Government throughout the 17th Lok Sabha.
