After Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut’s remarks on doctors, the Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) has written a letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray expressing their displeasure.
In the letter, MARD sought to know whether Maharashtra Chief Minister and Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray also share Raut’s opinion about doctors and medical professionals.
MARD has strongly objected to the remarks made by Raut saying that they are insulting to the medical profession. In an interview with a Marathi news channel, Raut said that he never goes to a doctor as they don’t know anything while adding that he always takes his medicine from a compounder and never from a doctor.
He also blamed the WHO of spreading the coronavirus pandemic saying that it is a useless organisation. People shouldn’t rely on the international health organisation as the COVID-19 outbreak is because of them, Raut said.
“The Chief Minister praises the doctors as corona warriors. On the other hand, his party leader bad mouths the same profession. Are we making all efforts to combat the coronavirus outbreak to listen to such insinuation?” the letter read.
The Indian Medical Association (IMA), Thane also wrote a letter to the Chief Minister and demanded Raut’s resignation over his remarks. The Thane branch of IMA said that doctors were demoralised by “negative and derogatory” remarks made by the Shiv Sena MP about medical professionals.
The letter said that healthcare professionals not only risk their lives but also their children, spouse and parents while working amid the coronavirus pandemic. “We, doctors, can’t work efficiently and sincerely with such negative and derogatory comments,” it read.
