The Lok Sabha elections 2019 will be a fair competition between two parties at the South-Central Mumbai constituency. Once again, the Congress party has nominated Eknath Gaikwad as the candidate for the constituency whereas Shiv Sena will provide the candidature to Rahul Shewale.
The Sena had faced defeat in 2009 as Congress’ Eknath Gaikwad had managed to emerge as the victorious candidate from the South-Central Mumbai constituency. However, in 2014, Shiv Sena candidate Rahul Shewale had defeated Gaikwad by nearly 1.38 lakh votes.
Shewale was active in politics since his college days and was a part of political party Shiv Sena. At first, he became a senior Shiv Sena leader, later went on to become a corporator, then he was chosen as the BMC Standing Committee Chairman, thrice. Eventually, he went on to become the Member of Parliament (MP). He also became the first ever MP to receive the ISO certificate for his work.
Shiv Sena candidate Rahul Shewale is a young contender in Lok Sabha election while his counterpart - Eknath Gaikwad - is a veteran Congress leader. Earlier in 2014, Shewale managed to defeat Gaikwad by a margin of nearly 1.38 lakh votes. In public opinion, Gaikwad seems to have lost touch with the people, especially the youth.
