The Maharashtra government has decided to include the Tilori Kunbi, Tillori Kunbi, and Ti Kunbi caste groups under the Other Backward Class (OBC) category. This decision comes in response to demands for reservations.
These groups have now joined other Kunbi-related categories, such as Maratha Kunbi, Kunbi Maratha, Leva Patil, Kunbi, and Leva Kunbi. The newly added castes will now receive reservation benefits in government jobs and education.
Meanwhile, the economically weaker section of the Brahmin community has also demanded economic assistance in past. The government has also been hearing similar demands from the Rajput community. Both groups have asked for support under the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category.
In response, the government has approved the creation of two economic development corporations. The Brahmin community will be supported by the Parshuram Economic Development Corporation. The Rajput community will benefit from the Veer Shiromani Maharana Pratap Economic Development Corporation. Each corporation will receive INR 50 crore to provide financial assistance for their EWS.
In addition, the government has announced plans to honour prominent social reformers by naming 14 government industrial training institutes after them. Among these reformers are DB Patil, Anand Dighe, Vinayak Mete, Sant Gadgebaba, Annabhau Sathe, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, and Birsa Munda.
These decisions were made during a meeting on Monday, September 23, in Mantralaya, where the government approved a total of 24 resolutions.
During the same meeting, the government also increased the reward for cow milk from INR 5 per litre to INR 7 per litre. This means that milk producers will now receive INR 35 per litre for the procurement.
To support national-level athletes, the government has amended its policies to make it easier for them to get government jobs. Further, 724 students from the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Research and Training Institute (BARTI) will receive full scholarships.
