The Maharashtra government gave the go-ahead for seven major industrial projects on Tuesday, July 30. These projects are expected to bring in investments totaling INR 81,137 crore and create nearly 20,000 jobs. The approval was granted by a cabinet sub committee on industries led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
Prominent investments will be made in the Konkan, Marathwada, and Vidarbha regions. The approved projects include enterprises in sectors like electric vehicles, lithium batteries, semiconductor chips, and fruit pulp production.
JSW Green Mobility is one of the largest approved projects. It will be located in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad) and will be Maharashtra's first ultra-mega electric and hybrid car manufacturing factory.
The separate JSW Group subsidiary will also invest INR 27,200 crore to build 100,000 commercial vehicles and 500,000 electric passenger cars annually. It will create around 5,200 jobs. The company plans another significant project by JSW Energy PSP Eleven involves setting up a ₹25,000 crore lithium battery manufacturing factory in Nagpur. This project is expected to create more than 5,000 jobs.
The cabinet subcommittee also approved Avaada Electro's integrated solar and photovoltaic module and electrolyser project. This project will be developed in Butibori, Nagpur, and MIDC Bhoparpara, Pune. It involves an investment of INR 13,647 crore. It would create over 8,000 job opportunities.
In Taloja, Raigad district, RRP Electronics Limited plans to launch an integrated semiconductor chip manufacturing project. This will be the state's first semiconductor manufacturing plant.
In this project, there will be an initial investment of INR 12,000 crore and the expected creation of over 4,000 jobs. The project's second phase will be established in Mahape, Navi Mumbai. Trial operations are set to begin by September 2024.
Additionally, a significant spirits production project will be established at Nagpur's Butibori MIDC by Pernod Ricard India. The beverage company plans to invest INR 1,785 crore in this project.
Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages has committed INR 1,500 crore to set up a fruit pulp and juice production factory in Ratnagiri, marking another major project.
