Amid the controversy over Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut’s remarks about former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, the chronicles of allegations and clarifications have started. 

Raut’s remarks about Indira Gandhi meeting infamous mafia don Karim Lala upset Shiv Sena’s new ally Congress in Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government. 

However, Sanjay Raut later withdrew his statement saying that “friends in Congress need not feel hurt”. 

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Devendra Fadnavis had also commented on the controversy while demanding to know whether the underworld mafia was financing Congress and sought clarification from its leaders. 

Earlier in the dayt, Maharashtra Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat made allegations against Fadnavis saying that he met an ‘infamous underworld don’ - Munna Yadav - at his official residence Varsha while he was the Chief Minister.

Reacting to this, Fadnavis said that he never gave backing to the underworld and clarafied that Munna Yadav was a three-time elected corporator from Nagpur Municipal Corporation. 

Fadnavis took to Twitter and said that Congress party owes an answer to its links with Karim Lala. 

Mr. Raut has neither denied, nor retracted the statement that Congress Governments were run by the underworld and Mumbai CP was appointed by the underworld. Do u agree with these statements because now you are saying that the issue is over? (sic)” Fadnavis tweeted.
