The monsoon session of Maharashtra Assembly for both the houses began on Monday amid protest carried out by opposition parties against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiv Sena government.
During the assembly proceedings, Maharashtra Finance Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar presented the economic survey report carried out by the state government before both the houses on the first day.
However, the opposition objected to several claims made in the report or survey regarding Maharashtra’s development. Opposition leader in Legislative council, Dhananjay Munde asserted that an all-party committee should be appointed to verify the authenticity of the economic survey report.
While accusing the central government of forging Gross Domestic Product (GDP) numbers earlier, the opposition doubted the authenticity of the economic survey report carried out by the Maharashtra government.

In March 2019, almost 108 economists across the world objected to the economic numbers presented by the central government. It was being said that these figures have been tampered. Former Finance Advisor Arvind Subramanian also stated that India’s growth was increased only by 2.5 per cent,” the opposition said.
Munde further stated that it becomes necessary to verify the statistics given in the economic survey.
