Police seized INR 42 lakh from Mumbai Central Railway Terminus ahead of Vidhan Sabha elections

Mumbai Railway Police seized INR 41.91 lakh rupees in an operation conducted by Government Railway Police (GRP) at Mumbai Central Terminus. Police also said that the Income Tax Department has been informed in this matter and they are conducting further investigation.


The GRP had received information that a passenger was carrying a large amount of cash from the 12953 August Kranti Express departing from Mumbai Central Terminus. After the arrival of August Kranti Express at platform number one of Mumbai Central Railway Station, the police team started checking the passengers. 

At that time, Usama Asim (24), a passenger sitting on seat number 71 of B-1 coach, checked his bag where INR 500, INR 200 and INR 100 notes were found.

When he was questioned about it, he could not give satisfactory answers. So, Usama was brought down on the platform and his trolley bag was examined in front of two government judges where they found INR 41.91 lakh rupees which was detained. 

In accordance with the Assembly Election Code of Conduct, the Election Commission, Income Tax Department was informed about the seized cash. The accused is a resident of Mumbra area. Currently, the Income Tax Department is investigating it.
