Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar on Wednesday urged his party workers to assist those affected by Cyclone Nisarga which made the landfall near Alibaug in Raigad district of Maharashtra.
The media reports stated the development noted by India Meteorological Department (IMD). It said that the process of cyclone lashing out at Maharashtra coast started at 12:30 PM and was completed by 2:30 PM.
Acknowledging the damage caused by the cyclone, Pawar asked the NCP workers to help people affected by the natural disaster while stating that Cyclone Nisarga has damaged public and private properties.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister has directed the state administration to start the relief work and maintaining a state of operational readiness as Cyclone Nisarga moves toward Mumbai and Thane.
However, the IMD has said that the cyclone has started weakening and the current wind speed is 90-100 km per hour which will further reduce by the evening.
The IMD further stated that the cyclone will weaken into a cyclonic storm by evening and into a deep depression by the late night.
The cyclone made its landfall with the speed of 100 to 110 km per hours and the winds reached the speed up to 120 km per hour. The relief work has started in Alibaug and Thackeray was in touch with the district collectors on the western coast of Maharashtra.
NCP MP from Baramati Supriya Sule also appealed people to stay indoors and follow instructions provided by the administration.
Cyclone Nisarga has hit in Raigad but Gujarat will face no major impact as the cyclone made its landfall in Maharashtra. The cyclone is moving towards North Maharashtra but IMD has stated that it has shown signs of weakening.
