Amid the ongoing conflict between Shiv Sena and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over power-sharing in Maharashtra, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Sunday said that his party is capable of forming the government in the state.

While speaking at a press conference, fuelling speculations for an alternate which Shiv Sena plans to take if BJP fails to honour the 50-50 power-sharing formula, Raut said that they have more than 170 MLAs supporting them.

We have more than 170 MLAs supporting us and the numbers can reach 175. The deadlock remains with no discussion on the formation of the government. There is no communication gap from our side,” said Sanjay Raut.

Raut further said that the talks with BJP will only happen on the post of the Chief Minister. Shiv Sena has earlier maintained that they will take the alternative if the BJP doesn’t agree to the power-sharing formula.

We are not sitting in the market. The talks will only happen on the post of Chief Minister. If the decision is not taken mutually, we will show our power and make the CM from Shiv Sena. People of Maharashtra also want the CM to be from Sena,” Raut added.

These remarks come after the tussle between Shiv Sena and BJP over power-sharing has intensified. While Sena is adamant on its demand to share the power equally, BJP has already stated that the CM will be from their party.

Earlier, Raut met Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar and messaged senior NCP leader Ajit Pawar. All this amid the speculations of Sena joining hands with NCP and Congress alliance in Maharashtra to form a government.

NCP chief Sharad Pawar is likely to meet Congress interim President Sonia Gandhi to discuss the ongoing conflict in Maharashtra and to discuss the possibility of an alliance with Sena to keep BJP out of power.

Maharashtra leaders from Congress had earlier met Sonia Gandhi regarding the same proposal. However, reportedly, Sonia Gandhi turned down the possibilities of an alliance with Sena in Maharashtra while stating that Congress can’t have an alliance with Hindutva hardliner parties like Shiv Sena.
