Western Railway has decided to convert 10 trains of 12 coaches into 15 coaches from October 1. This will also increase local trips. The expansion aims to reduce passenger congestion and ensure that more passengers can travel comfortably and on time.

Additionally, starting October 1, the Mumbai division of (WR) will also introduce 12 new services, increasing its total daily services from 1,394 to 1,406.

At present, 199 trips of 15 coaches are running on the Western Railway line per day. However, due to the increasing number of passengers, these coaches are also becoming inadequate.

Therefore, the conversion of 10 existing 12-car services to 15-car trains will bring the total number of 15-car services to 209, up from the current 199.

The 12 new services will include four between Dadar and Virar, one between Virar and Churchgate, one between Borivali and Churchgate, two between Churchgate and Andheri, three between Churchgate and Goregaon, and one between Churchgate and Nalasopara. Additionally, six services will be extended, three in each direction, and 16 other services will see operational changes, such as a shift from slow to fast services for certain trains.

Besides, 15-coach local trains on the Churchgate-Virar route is aimed at providing relief to passengers especially during peak hours.
