Have you ever been on a train journey when your train arrives at the station at 4:00 am or any other odd hour? Have you not been able to catch a wink of sleep, as you were worried about missing your train? Have you missed your train because you slept through? This may soon be a thing of the past as Indian Railways is coming up with a service where the passengers will receive a phone call just before the train is about to enter their destination or railway station.
The service is a joint initiative by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) and Bharat BPO.
To avail this service, the passengers will have to dial up the railway helpline number 139. Under this service, the passenger will receive information about the destination arrival via a phone call to the registered mobile number of the passenger. This message will be sent half an hour before the train arrives at the railway station.

The railway passengers will have to first call 139 and provide basic information like their PNR number, name of the railway station, STD code of the railway station. Once the formalities are completed, the system will find out the current status of the train and provide the correct information to the passenger via a phone call.
In order to make their customer service more accessible, Railways recently turned its 139 service number into an integrated helpline number, based on an interactive voice response system. Therefore, railway passengers now do not have to remember different numbers.
Starting January 1, 2020, only 139 number has been made available for passengers or railway users instead of several helpline numbers. To seek help, railway passengers just need to give a call or SMS on 139.
