The Maharashtra government announced that cancer patients would be provided free chemotherapy treatment at district hospitals.

The Maharashtra government’s Public Health Department has decided to provide cancer treatment facilities in six district hospitals in the state. It is striving to ensure that citizens get cancer treatment facilities close to their homes.

Accordingly, radiation oncology centers will be established in four district hospitals and radiotherapy and day care chemotherapy centers will be established in two district referral service hospitals.

This will also help reduce the pressure on hospitals in major cities like Mumbai, Pune.

Radiation oncology centers will be set up in district hospitals at Jalna, Ratnagiri, Baramati and Dharashiv, while radiotherapy and day care chemotherapy centers will be set up in divisional referral service hospitals at Amravati and Nashik.

This will be done through Hospital Services Consultancy Corporation Limited (HSCC Limited).

Hospital Services Consultancy Corporation Limited (hsc limited) will complete the construction of cancer treatment centers in these six districts on a private partnership basis with the public sector.

Later, the plan are in shape to open these centres at Nagpur, Gadchiroli, Wardha, Satara, Jalgaon, Bhandara and Akola.

If reports are to be believed, Maharashtra reported the second-highest number of cancer incidences in 2023 in India with around 1.21 lakh new cases. In the year 2021, the number for the same was around 1.18 lakh.
