The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) has launched seven mobile vans to monitor air quality in Mumbai. This comes after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced that the monsoon season is ending. With winter approaching, air pollution levels are expected to rise.

Many citizens make complaints about pollution and particulate matter emissions. The MPCB has been facing challenges in responding to air quality complaints. With the winter coming, these complaints are likely to increase.

The current air quality monitoring methods are slow. The manual process of data collection takes a long time and delays analysis. To solve this problem, the MPCB has added five mobile vans with PM10 and PM2.5 analysers and two more vans to focus on monitoring ground-level ozone.

As per reports, these new mobile units will help monitor air quality quickly and efficiently. The vans are equipped with advanced technology that allows real-time data collection. This will provide essential information on pollution sources and trends.

The real-time monitoring capabilities will help the MPCB act faster on air quality issues. Data collection will be more efficient, allowing the MPCB to handle complaints more comprehensively. The vans will also make it easier to understand pollution patterns and pinpoint emission sources.

The mobile vans will be deployed in strategic areas of Mumbai. These areas have been identified based on the volume of air quality complaints.

According to MPCB data, the air quality index (AQI) in Bandra Kurla Complex was recorded at 115 on Tuesday, which is classified as "moderate." In Kherwadi, Bandra East, the AQI stood at 80, which is satisfactory. In contrast, Chembur, known for its refineries and construction activity, recorded an AQI of 40, classified as "good".
