Winter fever and dengue patients are generally found in large numbers during the rainy season. But due to the change in the environment, patients have been found sporadically throughout the year this year. Therefore, this year compared to last year, there has been a slight increase in the number of dengue patients, but there has been a decrease in the number of winter fever patients. However, there has been a significant reduction in the number of deaths due to winter fever and dengue.


Various measures are being implemented by the state government to prevent winter heat. These measures are having some success. According to the information given by the Public Health Department, 15,670 winter fever patients were found in the state in 2024 from which 18 people passed away. Last year, 19,968 cases of winter fever were found and 23 people died. Therefore, this year the number of patients decreased by about 4,000 compared to last year. Also the number of casualties have decreased.

A maximum of 7,806 patients have been found in Mumbai, followed by 6,576 patients in Gadchiroli. Also, a maximum of 13 deaths due to winter heat have occurred in Gadchiroli. Among them, 5 people have died in Mumbai, two in Raigad and one in Thane.


Although there has been a decrease in the number of cold patients, there has been a slight increase in the number of dengue patients this year compared to last year. But the number of casualties have declined. In the state in 2024, 19,160 cases of dengue have been detected and 26 people have died. But last year, 19,034 cases of dengue were found in the state, while 55 people died. Therefore, although the number of dengue patients has increased to 126 this year, the health department has achieved some success in arresting the deaths.


The maximum number of dengue cases is 5,851 in Mumbai, followed by 1,238 in Kolhapur, 1,195 in Nashik, 737 in Raigad, 565 in Palghar, 542 in Satara, 446 in Nagpur, and 425 in Chandrapur. Also, the highest number of dengue deaths i.e. five occurred in Mumbai. Among them, four people died in Raigad and two each in Latur and Nagpur.


Increase in chikungunya patients

There has been an increase in chikungunya patients in the state compared to last year. As many as 5,757 cases of chikungunya have been found in the state since January, while last year 1,702 cases were found. In 2024, the highest number of chikungunya cases i.e. 1,088 were found in Nagpur, 751 patients were found in Pune and 735 patients in Mumbai.
