Shiv Sena's grip on Bandra East Assembly Constituency

Bandra East Constituency falls in North-Central Mumbai Lok Sabha Constituency. This new constituency came into existence after the constituency reorganisation in 2009. Shiv Sena had a grip on this constituency from the beginning. This constituency, home to Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray, was lost to the Shiv Sena in the 2019 elections and went to the Congress.

Shiv Sena's Prakash alias Bala Sawant had a grip on this constituency (Bandra East Assembly constituency). He was a corporator from 1997 to 2009 from a ward in Bandra East. In 2009, Shiv Sena gave him a ticket to the Legislative Assembly from here and Sawant won the election. In 2014, he once again went to the Legislative Assembly as an MLA from Shiv Sena ticket. But he died after a few months. By-elections were held in this constituency after Bala Sawant's death. Shiv Sena nominated Bala Sawant's wife Tripti Sawant from this constituency. Congress fielded Narayan Rane from this constituency in the assembly area, however, Sawant defeated Narayan Rane by almost 19k votes.
