Central Railways (CR), with an aim to offer valuable services to its customers, launched a mobile application, Yatri, which will provide live and timely information about the Mumbai local trains. The app launched by the Mumbai Division is expected to benefit the commuters and as per reports, over a lakh people have downloaded the app, which will keep the passengers informed.
A report regarding the same was published in the Free Press Journal which mentioned that announcements like the arrival and departure of the trains, timings, technical delays, failures, etc. will be provided on the app. A senior PRO from CR, in a conversation with the publication said that the commuters will now have information on their fingertips and over the next few updates, the services will be improved to inform users about the exact locations of the trains which will be achieved by installing the GPS system. This will be done in a phase-wise manner, as a trial, starting from Belapur, Neral and Kharkopar. Post analysing the outcomes, the same would be made available across all trains.

The app is available on both android and iOS platforms, and will offer information about trains, booking e-carts, etc. in the first phase. Moreover, one can also mark their preferred trains and routes to receive regular updates about the same. Going further, many additional features like timetable, amenities, policies, etc. will be added besides the authentic information and updates.
This is one of the important digital offerings from CR and is expected to raise by making services available easily to the commuters, The departments aims to earning over INR 85 lakhs in the next five years, the report added.
Meanwhile, Mumbai local trains will soon be operational in a hybrid model with AC and non-AC compartments. Information regarding the same was given at the press conference conducted by the concerned railway department recently. The department is currently planning to test the model and will launch the same, if the officials note positive results and feasibility.
